(This story has been updated to include additional information.) 84-year-old bicyclist in car crash taken to local hospital A male bicyclist from Simi Valley has suffered "life threatening injuries" after hitting a vehicle on Oct. 25, according to authorities. James Nownes, 84, was riding an electric bicycle when he swerved directly into the path of a motor vehicle traveling northbound on Sequoia Avenue at the intersection of Darby Street at around 12:08 p.m., according to a Simi Valley Police statement. Nownes' bicycle hit the side of the vehicle, causing minor damages, and Nownes himself was thrown off the bicycle. By the time officers responded to a call, they found Nownes with significant injuries and had him taken to Los Robles Hospital. "Unfortunately he was not wearing a helmet," said Sgt. Joshua McAlister in an email. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, said Sgt. Vincent Allegra. No alcohol or drugs seemed to be involved, he added.
